Finn's Notes


Ooglies 


Ooglies is a stop-motion animated children's television series produced by BBC Scotland for CBBC. The show involves short humorous sketches with household item, virtually all of which have googly eyes stuck on, hence the shows title.

Each episode shows the same googly eyed characters, tomatoes, chillies, eggs etc. And a banjo playing peanut, which appears as the credits role at the end of the program. Ooglies is only a short program, lasting only ten minutes. This will keep the target audience interested, as children have a short attention span. The program is fast paced, contains bright colours, interesting sounds (gibberish) and occasional SFX all of which keep the target audience (ages 4-11) interested.

The concept of having mundane household items talk is a quirky concept itself, but what i think makes this program so successful among this age category are stories which are contained within. For example a child can luxuriate in having there imagination come to, for example a seeing a strip of bacon pretend to be an egg, or a peanut playing a banjo.

The camera editing are simple cuts. Complicated shots are rarely used. Children are able to cope with simplistic shots, they might get confused as to where the action is taking place, if the shots are more complex.


Tom's Notes


Ben 10 is a children's fantasy adventure where a young boy can transform into different aliens and fight villains and solve different crimes. This program is aimed at 5-10 year old children. The reasons that it is aimed at this age group is because it has several different story lines which younger children may find harder to follow and may not understand what is happening during the program. There are also scenes of animated violence which some people may think is unacceptable to a younger audience. The program contains lots of bright coloured things and loud sounds and this draws in the attentions of the viewers and makes it more interesting  to the age group that its aimed at. there are also lots of fast shots/ cuts to speed up the pace of the program when it starts to slow down for example when there is long periods of dialogue, close ups are used when the characters are talking to show the emotions on their faces during the dialogue.


Dans Notes


In the children's programs i have watched the genres seems to be based on a soft fantasy/adventure  in which theres always a problem which the group of characters get together and help out somebody, by the end they have resolved the problem and everything turns out happily by the end. The music they use throughout the program is very happy and upbeat to set a light and happy tone. As its aimed at young children it understandable why the use this music as if they used dark heavy music the audience wouldnt enjoy the program as much and the adults probably would want them to watch it as they might think it could disturb them or something like that.

Joe's notes


SHREK FOREVER AFTER- the genre is a children’s comedy/fairytale as it follows the basic fairytale structure as it has a quest, lovers and a kingdom. It is also aware of the fact that adults will watch the film with their children so it has included some humour that is above the understanding of the main demographic. Personally I would say that the target audience is ages 5-12 as it has something for all ages of children as it has different layers of meaning. Then target audience is reached through the use of mise en scene, there are many items to suggest that the story starts in shreks home as some items used are associated with homes e.g. beds , curtains and baths. Sound is a key tool used to set the scene and the mood. At the start it as happy and cheerful to suggest all is well in the shrek household. This follows the basic todorovian stucture that is used in most children’s films. The first part of the story is happy and all the micro features try to convey this mood.

UP- the genre is a children’s adventure, the target audience of this film is slightly younger than the one for shrek I would say that it is 5-10 as there are less things in this film that will test the understanding. Once asgain the film follows the todorovian structure as people love a happy ending. Sound is used very well at the start of this film as once again it suggests a happy and cheerful atmosphere. The mise en scene in the films opening sequence suggests that  it’s just an average town with two average people. Editing and camerawork are used to show important parts of the couples life together so obviously the can’t show 40 years of film so they have to select important bits and editing is used so that the clips, that are years apart, will link well togeth er.
